Dave Mathews Bio
The Edwards Dave Mathews Scholarship Award is an opportunity to recognize
a member of the State Occupational Health Nurses Association who has
exhibited exemplary performance and pursuit of educational goals in occupational
health.
Dave was born in Rochester, New York, where his father was a minister.
The family then moved to Los Angeles, California, when Dave was 12 years
old. After Dave graduated from Los Angeles High School he then enlisted
in the Marines. After his honorable discharge from the military he attended
the University of Redlands and UCLA. In 1942 Dave's father started a
vitamin business. However, his father had some health problems and passed
away in 1946. Dave's mother, Evelyn Mathews, continued the business.
After much urging Dave joined his mother in selling and promoting new
products. In 1969 they purchased Cameron Medical Supply.
In April of 2001 Cameron Medical Supply became part of Edwards Medical
Supply. Edwards Medical Supply is the nation's leading supplier of medical
products and services to occupational health professionals. The company's
commitment to occupational health excellence extends to national and
state professional organizations. Edwards Medical Supply is also proud
to support the AAOHN Foundation through scholarships which funds continuing
education for two occupational health nurses.
Dave reached his fiftieth year in business August
2003. To quote him: "Nobody
could do a job for 50 years without loving it & working with Occupational
Health Nurses, the world's greatest bosses." Dave is an avid reader,
loves to putter in the garden and taking motor home trips with his wife
Nancy and their little dog Suzy. He is looking forward to spending more
time with his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. |
